The Met Ball & Monique’s Celeb Top 5
Hello and welcome to a new regular post! My endlessly useless knowledge about all things celebrity can finally be put to use! It seems that many are curious about what has been happening in the celebrity world but few are willing to go the extra mile (closer to the three mile zone or TMZ as it’s more popularly known) to find out the dirt. So I thought I’d lend a helping hand and keep you up to speed on life in Tinseltown. This will just be the top 5 stories of the week (according to yours truly). For even more goss, head over to the post on my blog “the low down according to mon”. Now to kick it off…
This week was the 2012 Met Costume Institute Gala, which, for the uneducated, is basically the Oscars of fashion. Held every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, The Met Gala is attended by actors, singers and models, wearing high fashion creations and not just the classic red carpet looks. You can check out a gallery of looks here and here. But the most exciting news of the night? Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake made their first public appearance as an engaged couple and we got a closer look at her AMAZING diamond.
2. Music pioneer MCA dead at 47
Music lovers across the world mourned this week when news broke that Adam “MCA” Yauch of hip-hop group the Beastie Boys died at the age of 47 after a long battle with cancer. The music pioneer lost his three year battle with a cancerous parotid gland and lymph node on May 4th, his reps confirmed. His loss was felt keenly across the music world, but actor Rainn Wilson summed it up best when he said this “He was a super-genius, a visionary and, most importantly, a really good person.”
Like any good superhero/comic book movie, The Avengers has been box office gold. Over the weekend, The Avengers became the fourth comic book film to enter the top ten all-time opening weekends and it just so happened that it took out first place, beating Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two by just over $31 million making $200.3 million opening weekend. Because of its success and popularity with audiences across the world, there is already confirmation from Disney (who heads up Marvel Studios) that there will be a sequel. No word yet on who is going to write and direct, though it would be a shame to lose Joss Whedon.
4. John Travolta faced with more claims that question his sexuality
Actor John Travolta has been hit with two charges of sexual assault/battery this week after a masseur filed a lawsuit with the federal court claiming the Pulp Fiction star tried to have sex with him after hiring him for a massage. His reps have denied the claims calling them “complete fiction and fabrication”. Just days afterward, another masseur filed a complaint saying that Travolta exposed and touched himself while being given an in-room massage at an Atlanta hotel. There’s evidence John Travolta wasn’t even in the same time zone when the alleged attacks took place but it doesn’t seem like these allegations are going away with rumours of more laying in the wait.
Also in celebrity news this week, the very attractive Brad Pitt has been named the new face of Chanel No. 5. Were you shocked as well? Not that he hasn’t got a beautiful face (once you tame the facial hair) but traditionally, Chanel No. 5 is advertised by women (such as Nicole Kidman, Audrey Tautou and Mrs Johnny Depp, Vanessa Paradis) and Brad Pitt will be the first man to ever be the face of the French fashion house’s signature perfume. His figure is reportedly in the seven figures, which could go towards wedding planning, not that he needs the extra cash. And in other celebrity perfume endorsement, Gwyneth Paltrow (Brad’s former fiance) has just released a new fragrance with Hugo Boss called Boss Black Boss Nuit Pour Femme.
If you love looking at celebrity babies, many pictures have been released this week, with the offspring of Charlize Theron, Jack Osbourne and Robert Downey Jr on display over at “musings”.
Just for fun…
To really send you off into your weekend, I thought I’d share with you the wonderful news that Rebecca Black, the singer responsible for giving us “Friday” (admit it, you kind of love it) has just released her fourth song and video called “Sing It”. You can thank me later.
A heads up to all you lovely readers, nothing in this or any other celebrity post will be negative. There will be no celebrity bashing here, just up to date stories to keep you in the loop. Any comments made on this post that are negative or disrespectful towards celebrities will be removed. Remember, they are people too! We good?
