A Robot And My Hopes for a Stepford-like Life

April 15, 2013 in Health, Home, Lifestyle, Pets

Anyone who has read more than a few posts from me knows when it comes to housework I’m the laziest person ever. I hate housework. I thought this would magically change over time and I’d become a Stepford Wife purely by growing up, getting married, having kids, moving out of home. Well, I haven’t had kids, I got married and I moved out, but whether or not I’ve grown up is debatable, and I still haven’t had a magic wand waved and become a Stepford Wife… And considering how painful that machine to turn the wives into robots looks, I guess [...]

This Week: How Animals Eat Their Food

April 13, 2013 in Fashion, Health, Home, Lifestyle, Meta, Style, Work

As you know, last week I was sick. I’m still on a restricted diet but I’m allowed solid food again (yay!) so Monday saw me attending work dizzy and weak, then Monday night I ate the best meal in the world and have felt heaps better since. I’m still not 100% and my stomach is probably only at about 70% alright, but I’m getting there! Here’s my week in pics: First meal after fasting for 3 days. Best meal ever.  My childhood dressing table (pictured in my childhood bedroom). My parents want it out of their house so they can make [...]

How To: Lose Your Mind in 10 Days

April 2, 2013 in Health, Home, Humour, Lifestyle, Mental Health, Stories, Work

Step 1: Decide to sell your house You’ve been thinking about it for a while anyway. And time is never better than the present to make these big decisions. Especially with employment conditions up in the air. Always make major decisions when other stressors are already present. The key to this one is that when you finally make the decision, DON’T SLEEP ON IT! Tell your agent straightaway, and follow that up with signing the listing contract immediately! This all adds to the excitement of the amazing adventure of losing your mind. And to add even more excitement, you realise [...]

This Week: Breakfast & Cleaning

March 30, 2013 in Food & Recipes, Home, Lifestyle, Meta, Pets, Self, Sexuality, Society

In the past week I’ve spent more than the recommended amount of time cleaning. The up side being my house is all spotless in time for Easter and we finally unpacked the boxes in the hallway that have been there for, oh, a while (3 years). I also cleaned all the windows which haven’t been cleaned for a long time. This was my week in pics: Breakfast for Good Friday: Porridge! Note how my one is the child size version? Hilarious.  Night at the Chapel last Friday night. Church has changed quite a bit since I was last there. Lionel [...]

Recipe: Hot Cross Buns

March 29, 2013 in Family, Food & Recipes, Home, Nutrition

This weekend I am going to immerse myself in all things Easter, especially chocolate. I’ll be spending the holiday at home with my hubby and three kids and to celebrate I am going to be doing lots of baking. Well, I probably should say, I intend to do lots baking. Although the Easter break is four days long, it doesn’t seem long enough to get through all the baking I’d like to eat. And of course, I need to leave room for chocolate! Some of the things I’d like to bake: Hot Cross Buns Fritole (Italian-style donuts) Easter Bunny shaped cookies [...]

So Boring It Should Be Free

March 15, 2013 in Home, Lifestyle, Money

There are some things in life so boring they should be free. They’re so boring, inconsequential and essential I had just assumed they came with the house until I was setting up a house of my own and realised, to my dismay, we actually had to buy these things. I’m sure you know the kind of things I’m talking about. Things like pegs and laundry baskets. Coat hangers and plugs. Plugs! Surely plugs just come with the sinks, right? Then to add insult to injury, you can’t take your sink to the shop to find out what size plug you need. And [...]

Wealth Distribution, Inequality and Sadness

March 8, 2013 in Current Affairs, Finance, Home, Human Rights, Lifestyle, Money, News, People, Politics, Self, Society, Work

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about money. I hate money. I hate it with an absolute passion. As a child I wanted to be rich, purely because I didn’t ever want to have to think about money. I just wanted it to be there when I wanted it and never have to worry about it again. I’ve reached a point now where even that would not be enough. I would need to be completely, totally, stinking rich, so not only could I not think about money but I could give most of it away to others without it mattering [...]

Renovation: That Other ‘R’ Word

March 7, 2013 in Anecdotes, Home, Lifestyle

Some people revel in doing their own renovations — not me. Several years ago when it was time to upgrade from a tiny one bedroom home to a larger three bedroom home, my husband and I made sure we found one that had already been renovated. Having barely survived doing-it-ourselves in our previous abode, we were adamant not to go down that road again. No renovations for us! Our dreams were answered when we found a perfect Federation-style house, with an extension that comprised an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. It was perfect and we patted ourselves on [...]

Telemarketers, Charity Muggers and the Fall of Polite Society

March 5, 2013 in Health, Home, Lifestyle, Money, Work

I am on the no call list which means these days if I get a telemarketing call it is either from a charity or a scam. I love telling some criminal phone call worker that I have an Apple when he tells me he got a distress call from my windows computer. But the fact that most telemarketers these days are criminals is not why I hate them, I hate them for what they were before that, and how they made me, and I am sure countless others, ruder. First, they invade the sanctity of your home. I am sitting [...]

Confessions Of A Recovering Hoarder

December 5, 2012 in Health, Home, Lifestyle, Mental Health, People, Self

Hoarder: a person who accumulates things and hides them away for possible future use. (freedictionary.org) Well, I’m a recovering hoarder and I think that definition is almost too kind. So I Googled it and came up with another, maybe more suitable definition for my kind of hoarding. Acquiring and failing to throw out a large number of items that would appear to have little or no value to others. (ocd.about.com) Yep that’s me. Or it WAS me. I have spent my life not being able to let go of “stuff”. Not throwing things out because of a perceived level of nostalgia attached to the [...]
