This Week: Conflux of Calamity

Conflux_of_calamity_strikes_again__ouch

The Viking describes me as a Conflux of Calamity, and it’s pretty spot on. This week at work I fell down the stairs. How? Honestly I’m not entirely sure. Stopped paying attention for a moment, next thing I knew I was on my bum. Managed to twist my ankle and smack my butt on the way down – my entire left bum cheek is black.

The really depressing part was when I had to log it in the work incident reporting system and the system informed me this was my third injury sustained at work. Yeesh.

Best

Last Sunday Monique came over to visit me and have a catch up. It was so lovely to spend time with her.

I also made lasagne from scratch (all from scratch except the pasta sheets) for the first time.

Worst

Getting injured has meant 2 days off work. That’s hard enough normally but right now things are so busy it could not have been a worse time. On top of the incredibly busy period, it was the manager’s last week before maternity leave, plus last night was the work Christmas party and I wasn’t allowed to go!

This Week’s Pic

My ankle. Plus peas. I’d show you a pic of my bruise but it wouldn’t be safe for work.

Around the Web

This video of bloggers reading mean comments cracked me up, particularly the one about scones.

This gallery of jokes written by kids had me absolutely dying with laughter.

This post on explaining white privilege to a broke white person was heavy subject matter but such an important read. As a straight, white, middle class, cis-gendered woman I am ridiculously privileged.

The trailer for Jurassic World came out and it actually looks better than I expected. Thoughts?

On KiKi & Tea

We kicked off the week with an insightful piece from Hayley on being diagnosed with, and overcoming, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. It’s so important for everyone to share their stories if we’re going to break down this stigma.

Maree shared the perfect breakfast smoothie recipe (bonus: it’s vegan). In another recipe from Sally (I’m convinced she should move in with me) she cooked up a delicious chicken and vegetable tagine and we finished off the week with a guest post from Tenille at Vision of Hope telling the story of her mother’s suicide and how it inspired her to make a difference.

How was your week? Have you ever injured yourself at work, or fallen down stairs? What did you think of the bloggers reading mean comments video?

I’ve had a mixed week… I started off feeling really inspired by reading Amanda Palmer’s “The Art Of Asking” (You can read my review on my blog…) – It reinforced everything I’ve been thinking about life and happiness and unicorns over the past year… and it’s a great read…

But then Phillip Hughes died – and life became serious again – but then I thought about all the people who tried to help Phillip in his last days – and all the people who supported his family – and all the people supporting Sean Abbott – and my week came full circle – because everything that Amanda Palmer wrote about in her book – all the love and respect and support we give each other – all the different ways we connect to each other – it was all there in Phillip Hughes’ sad death.

Bad things happen – sad things happen – but when they do, the people we connect with are there to help us… never forget that!

Amanda Palmer’s TED talk was really inspirational, I assume the book is the same thing but more detailed. She’s a really amazing person.
Phillip Hughes’ death is absolutely tragic. And you’re right, the outpouring of love for him, his family and for Sean Abbott who has been supported through this terrible time has been wonderful.

Yep – her book is like her TED talk – but so much more… you learn about her relationships with her friends and family and fans – and her insecurities, and tragedies… but it’s also a love story… more than one actually…

I think you should ask someone to give you her book for Christmas… I think you’d enjoy it, and I think you’ll learn some things from it too – I know I have.

One of my best was catching up with you, it was so lovely to see you again after all this time!

My worsts have been the passing of Phillip Hughes (I feel just awful for Sean Abbott) and the fact that I took my car in for a service and rego check and ended up needing two new tyres and will need to replace my timing belt very soon. None of this has come cheap. DG and I really want to travel at the end of next year, but every time we save any money for it, another expense pops up. I’m hoping this stops being the case soon.
