This Week: Brain Fart

Ready_for__PBEvent_thanks__bec_reid_

This week has been taken up by a few things.

  1. Work
  2. Being randomly abused on twitter for the piece I wrote about sexism and swearing
  3. Being tired
  4. Testing out what happens when you don’t like anything in your facebook news feed

Edit: I published this post with no title. Hence calling it Brain Fart. That’s what it was.

Best: Next week I’m taking two days off work to attend Problogger and I have to admit, I’m as excited about having a sleep in on the Thursday as I am about going to the conference at all. Plus, unlike last year, on the Thursday I’m flying up in the morning and have the rest of the day to sort myself out in preparation for the actual event. I keep having to remind myself to think about what I’m actually going to pack, and remember to pack a power board.

Worst: I have been so run down lately. It’s stress, it’s always stress. I have a really hard time trying not to let being really busy get to me and I get to a point where I just want to sleep. ALL. THE. TIME.  Luckily one of the programs I set up for next year at work is Clinical Psychology, so I’ve been able to get a CD on meditation and mindfulness I intend to test out pretty soon.

This Week’s Pic (top): The theme on the Friday night for the Problogger networking event is seaside, sailors and pirates. I’m sorted!

Around the web:

This post from Buzzfeed was my inspiration this week:

closet-hacks

need to clean out my wardrobe. Desperately. Problem is I keep thinking I’ll wear things again, when I won’t – I get bored with them and more on to something else that I love to death. I’ve reached a point where most of the clothes I wear live in my floordrobe, and I’d really like to get them into my wardrobe at some point.

The other article I read that resonated was this piece from Sonia Styling about her health issues. I have both the acronyms she does, plus a few others, and I commiserate with realising you have to make life changes. The Viking & I have been gradually improving our lives for the past year or so. My next step in the right direction is I want to take up running. I’ve read a lot of information on how and found a system that resonates with me, so far I’ve been too lazy to actually get out and do it.

I’ve also taken to heart this post about  and thought I’d test it out. So far I’m seeing more people and less pages, but I don’t know, honestly, if I’m happy with that or not. I like and follow those pages for a reason! It’s the advertising I don’t want to see! And I’ms till seeing that. Plus a friend got engaged and another friend is pregnant and not liking those updates felt yucky.

On KiKi & Tea:

I kicked off the week writing about sexism and swear words with resonated with quite a few people, and not so much with others. Our Tuesday Tip was 8 steps to get over a cold fast and I participated in the Liebster Blog Awards as nominated by Smaggle.

Our most popular post was one Smaggle linked to about what it was like for me growing up skinny.

How was your week?

I thought you guys might be interested in my solution for Facebook:

    1. I tend to follow people rather than pages. If I want to follow a website (which a FB page is usually for) I use RSS and a feed-reader instead.

    2. Install Adblock Plus – no more ads.

    3. Install a browser plugin called Social Fixer – this simplifies the FB interface and allows you to customize your FB experience. I use it to do things like:

    – View recent posts by default (instead of FB’s top stories)
    – Hide or Mute FB posts I’ve already read (This is the best thing!)
    – Remove stuff from the FB screen, like “Trending”

So all I see in my FB feed are the most recent “unread” FB posts – I actually get to see what I want, not what FB thinks I want! :)

I don’t mind the adds, but I hate the idea I am missing someones posts unless lots of people like it. Really looking forward to seeing how it goes while resisting the urge to like the post on FB.

Now, where do I get social fixer from?

        Just google it… :)

Trust me – it will change your FB experience! (I’ll leave a link in another comment – someone from KK&T will get around to approving it eventually 😉

Packing a powerboard for PB is seriously the best tip I have heard thus far – thank you! I’m hearing you on feeling stressed and run down and I too am looking forward to some time off work as much as I am looking forward to actually attending PB. Thanks so much for linking to my post, hun. Catch you on the GC next week! x
