I’ve been nominated by Smaggle for the 2014 Liebster Awards. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s basically a blogging chain letter where you have to answer a series of questions posed to you by the person who nominated you, then you get to pose 10 questions to the people you nominate. While I’m generally opposed to chain letters, I couldn’t resist Smaggle’s questions.
So here I go.
1. Do you have a favourite mug? What happens if someone else uses it?
Yes. Short answer: They don’t.
Long answer: This is less because people are worried about using it and more that at work it lives on my desk (and it’s clean there) so it can’t be touched by anyone else and at home I’m always the one making hot drinks in my house so I just don’t give it to anyone else. Admittedly at home I bought a whole stack of mugs in the same design (it’s the same design as the one I have at work too) and have 2 favourite colours so it’s almost impossible for anyone to deprive me of my favourite mug. There’s only one colour I hate, and will refuse to use that colour. I won’t tell you which one it is in case you’re ever at my house and I give it to you.
2. If you were going to audition for The X Factor (or other such competitive reality singing show) what would your power song be?
I actually auditioned for Australian Idol, so I suppose I answered this question in practice already. Only that was the first series and I hadn’t watched it yet, I hadn’t yet realised the rule of all singing TV shows – judges don’t want quality, they want loud. So I failed with my audition song of Angel by Sarah McLachlan (which I even chucked up a key to demonstrate the range of my voice). If I ever auditioned again I would probably choose Hero by Mariah Carey, On My Own from Les Miserables or Defying Gravity from Wicked. Still high but also loud.
3. Is there anyone that you would erase from your memory like in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?
I don’t know if I would. If I did erase anyone it would not be my abusive ex boyfriends (yes, there were 2) as they actually taught me a lot and I think it would be detrimental to who I am now to remove them. If I did I think I’d remove one of my primary school best friends who got a job at a workplace I also worked at and swears black and blue she has no recollection of me at all, even though we used to spend many weekends together. She’s already removed me from hers, so it probably wouldn’t hurt to remove her from mine.
4. What’s your spirit animal and why? (Or for Potter-heads what would your Patronus be?)
Tough question! It has to be a cat, they’re the animal people most identify with me even though I have always liked dogs as well (for some reason it’s an assumption that I’m a “cat person”). I guess I’ll go with a Puma. My favourite animal is a Cheetah but that doesn’t really align with my personality as I’m not all that fast. I’m also not extremely powerful like a lion or a tiger, so a puma – somewhere in the middle size wise, fairly powerful, fairly fast, a general all-rounder. Plus it has golden-red hair and looks just like a big version of Bella.
5. What’s your favourite quote?
I have so many! One of my absolute favourites has to be the last words from the final episode of Sex and the City (not counting the movies): “The most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”
I also love this one, also from Sex and the City: “Maybe it’s maturity or the wisdom that comes with age, but the witch in Hänsel and Gretel, she’s very misunderstood. I mean, the woman builds her dream house… and these brats come along and start eating it.”
But I think I can’t go past Cynthia Nixon’s take on marriage equality: “Gay people who want to marry have no desire to redefine marriage in any way. When women got the vote, they did not redefine voting. When African-Americans got the right to sit at a lunch counter alongside white people, they did not redefine eating out. They were simply invited to the table.”
6. Would you rather eat a spider or have sex with Fat Bastard?
Eat a spider. Primarily because I’ve already done it. Accidentally.
7. Which celebrity would play you in a movie?
Nicole Kidman of course! Although perhaps Isla Fisher would be more able to capture the goofy side of me.
8. What’s the worst thing you’ve ever smelled?
Dry blood. No more needs to be said.
9. Name three things in your fridge.
Guava juice, feta cheese, chilli wine. I tried really hard to think of 3 interesting things in my fridge and that was the best I could come up with. Other things include lettuce, mineral water, milk and salsa.
10. It’s time for dessert and you can have ANYTHING – what do you have?
At the moment it’s a tie between a banana, nutella and biscuit crepe (which I’m having for lunch today) and taro and after dinner mint gelato (that’s two flavours, not one) from Bravo Trattoria, my favourite restaurant.
My nominees (in no particular order) are:
Like Smaggle, I’d really like you to enter the fray and answer these questions!
My questions are:
- If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
- Do you conform to gender roles?
- What do you do or wear when you need a confidence boost?
- Do you enjoy having people visit your home?
- Do you have a signature colour?
- What’s your routine first thing in the morning?
- Have you ever done something you really regret, if so, what was it?
- If you could have one wish, what would it be?
- How would your best friend describe you?
- If you could ask me any question, what would it be?
