OK, so technically it was last week. But I didn’t share all the photos of my AMAZING transformative* work so I’m doing it now. Consider this your queue to ooh and ahh in awe.
First up we have the table I turned from ugly into nice with a $9 pot of paint.
The family room before and after. That teak will have cupboard doors soon – one of them flew off on the way to our house and needs some cosmetic repair. This “before” pic does not show you the piles of stuff hidden in the corners.
This before pic I pulled the stuff out of the corners. Impressive clean out, no?
And the most impressive of all: The spare room. Yes. That really is the same room.
And in other pics:
I got on the train one morning and the whole thing was PURPLE! I felt like I was travelling in a carriage of grape hubba bubba. Or Charlie’s stomach (10 points if you get that reference).
I’ve taken part in the Fox in Flats Unisex style dare this week, Monday was tie where I stole one of the Viking’s and used it as a headband. Then Slick. Wednesday was a blazer. Thursday was a cuff (which I haven’t pictured) and Friday was a waistcoat which I didn’t do because I don’t have one. FAIL.
Look! Two cats! Bella hopped in under the blanket with me on the couch and happily purred away in my arms and didn’t flinch when Lionel jumped up and settled behind my knees. I win!
I fell up the stairs at work. This is the result. Although, honestly, I can’t be sure if the ones on my thighs are from falling up the stairs or from the housework I did, but everything from the knee down was DEFINITELY falling up the stairs.
The best thing I read outside KK&T this week was this post on Top Ten Reasons Ex-Party Girls Make Great Mothers. It made me laugh. And secretly think I’m going to totally fail at this mothering business as I require lots of sleep and have never liked partying, throwing up or public toilets.
On KK&T this week we joined the conversation about mental health, and asked the 4 questions you need to answer today. We continued our promotion of Australian Teenage Expo and you really need to enter to win tickets! Jessica shared her journey and acquired knowledge about finding a bra that fits. We had a guest post from Samara on why everyone should be proud to love and proud to be loved, as well as an anonymous guest post on what an addict really looks like, and Cassie opened up about why being a Manic Pixie Dream Girl isn’t quite as fun and fulfilling as it may appear.
My favourite comment was from Ribbons on Blogging, Money, Writing and Contributors as it really made me think:
I’ve changed my view on writing over the past year, after reading a lot on the state of writing and money.
It used to be for me a thing I would like to one be paid for, or a profession I could perhaps enter. I’m old enough that journalism was once a viable career option. Now I have re classed writing as a hobby only. When I write something (an article, a short novel – god one day I’ll finish – etc) and complete it I see it the same way as someone who has completed a piece of knitting or played a game of basketball. They paid for materials, court fees, I paid with my time and efforts. Other hobby people expect nothing back from their money and efforts but the enjoyment they had and perhaps the admiration of others (you made that quilt wow! hey I read your $1.99 e-book that makes you no money and loved it!).
So how is writing any different? Few hobbies are free. Some hobbies are bloody expensive! Few people expect their hobby to repay them or pay off or earn them an income. Writing used to pay, it rarely does now, our mindset needs to change. For most people it’s a hobby, just like any other, with associated costs.
For those who still want to have a crack at generating an income or covering costs, great! Some people will manage to that. There is room in the market for quality writing/unique ideas to earn money. But few will manage it because there has been an explosion in writers due to the accessibility of publishing changing.
I hope this site covers it’s costs and the efforts to do so are fine. I love the ASOS ads. Sponsored ads are fine, do what you have to do. Ambition is great. I just want hobby writer’s and bloggers in general (in general, not saying this writer) to stop complaining about how they make no money/have to pay for a template. No one pays for my knitting yarn or my snowboard.
And our most popular post was Manic Pixie Dream Girls: Not So Fun Actually.
Here’s a video of a cat riding a roomba in a shark costume:
How was your week?
*spellcheck tells me that’s not a word… But then it’s also telling me spellcheck is not a word. So I am choosing to ignore it.
