Double Standards A-Plenty

double standards

double standards

It amazes me that in this day and age, double standards are still such an issue.

With things like Gay rights, and Women’s rights, and equality being fought for the world over, there are still some unbeliveable double standards, which are completely mind boggling!

Men are Studs, Women are Sluts

This one really rubs me up the wrong way. Basically, men can sleep with whoever they want, and they are considered studs, whereas women get categorised as sluts.

So to even up the score, I’ve taken to calling one of my guys a man whore. It’s only fair.

Men and Women in the Same Job Get Paid Differently

How does this work exactly? There are two people, both in exactly the same position, with the same experience, the same degree, and the only difference is their genitalia.  But for some reason, men get paid more!

Is it because women can get pregnant? Well that’s ridiculous, work places are assuming that all women are able to have kids, or in a position to have kids, and that’s just not true.

So tell me, what logical reason is there for this double standard?

Men Who Show Emotion are Wimps

Ah, no. Men showing emotion are just proving they are human and not robots. The idea that men show weakness by showing emotion makes zero sense. Are they expected to go through life only reacting in a manly way? How exactly DO you react in a manly way? By grunting? Quick nod of the head?

Honestly, there is nothing sexier to me than watching a man react with happiness and joy, or shedding a tear because something is beautiful. Let’s get rid of this wimp business shall we?

One Race/Religion/Gender can Insult Another Race/Religion/Gender but not the Other Way Around

Why is it that blacks can insult whites, but not the other way around? You can insult a Catholic, but you can’t insult a Jewish or Islamic person. And making fun of men has pages in magazines, but making fun of women is unacceptable.

How about we just stop with the insults entirely? That seems to make sense to me! There is no need to be insulting other people based on their differences to you!

Wait, there is no need to be insulting other people. Full stop.

Woman who are Abused are Protected, Men are Ridiculed

Let’s be honest here, spousal abuse can go both ways. The abuse isn’t always physical either. It can be emotional and mental abuse.

So it makes sense that both men and woman can be subjected to abuse.

So why is it woman can go to the police and hand in their husbands, but it can’t go the other way around? Why do men just have to accept the abuse?

You’ve heard stories where women have endured years and years of abuse and have snapped, have gone to court and received a reduced sentence or been set free as it was considered an act of defense. The woman would receive understanding and compassion.

If a man did this? He’d be in jail. Without question. WHY?? It’s the SAME CRIME.

These double standards are just so ridiculously lop-sided. Plus some of them are so dangerous!!

How do we stop double standards? Is this something that we as a society can do? There are movements to stop bullying, can we do something to bring people’s attention to double standards?

What double standard frustrates you? Is there something you think we could do as a society or even personally to stop them?

Don’t call someone a man – whore. Just call them a slut. You wouldn’t call a slutty girl “Girl whore”, so don’t do it to men. Just whore or slut works.

    • Mandi Aylmore

We call him a slut too, don’t you worry. Man whore is for comedic value.

…maybe we shouldn’t call anyone slut or whore in equal measure 😉

        • Kris2040

Yeah, I agree. Unless you’re one of the people doing the shagging, it really shouldn’t matter to anyone else.

          • Bradley

I just wish that I had the stamina to be a slut or a whore of any discription ! Then I wouldn’t mind what you wanted to call me ! :)

But I agree, the double standards of those who make the demands are pretty outragious. Right out of the pages of the “Do As I Say, Not As I Do” playbook. It has been my experience to find that those who make such demands of everyone else are the people who are so easily offended by everything.

Do men an women in exactly the same role get paid differently? That’s illegal. When people talk about men getting paid more than women I think they are referring to the fect that jobs mostly filled by women, like childcare, have lower wages than roles mostly filled by men. This is where the gender pay gap happens.

    • Detachable Princess

Hayley there was an article in the news not too long ago – college graduates, going for the same roles, the men were offered a higher starting salary than the women.

      • Hayley Ashman

        That’s horrendous!

It is, and it is a reality. Because apart from public sector or roles with a specific salary mandated by an external force (union, government, etc) your pay is purely by negotiation. So there’s nothing to stop two people doing the same job getting different pay.

    I’d be a man-whore, if I got the chance !…… :-)

        I said nothing about a ring, Cuppy….. ;-P

I’m a high school teacher who helped supervise a visit to the school from people who take sessions on all things ‘sex’. The students who participated were all female and around the age of 14-15.

When one of the leaders discussed sexual abuse and rape, the girls not only didn’t believe a female could rape a man, or that a female WOULD molest or rape a man, because men are tough, women are the gentle gender. They also said that if a woman was assaulting a man, wouldn’t he ‘enjoy’ it?

They assumed if a male was sexually assaulted or raped, or even a victim of domestic abuse, it would be at the hands of another male: NEVER a female. I was shocked, but clearly society perpetuates the ‘boys don’t cry’ myth.
