Mitt Romney's ear warmers would get him my vote in the primaries.
Lately it seems as though the news has been overrun by the US Republican Presidential Primaries. I can’t turn on SkyNews without being confronted by the figures of who won which state. Despite the fact that most of the candidates have unusual names (Mitt Romney, who’s first name is actually Willard, Rick Santorum, don’t Google his last name, and Newt Gingrich, sounds like the name of a character in fantasy fiction), I’ve been trying to figure out who I like the best.
I have decided on Mitt Romney. But let me be clear, this has nothing to do with his political standings, it is simply to do with the fact that I find him to be the most trustworthy. Why, I hear you ask? Well, it’s because he has grey hair just above his ears. Yes, you read that correctly.

I've always had a soft spot for Bryan Batt and his highlights.
I find Mitt the most trusting because he has dark hair, but grey hair just above his ears. And it’s not just Mitt. When going through Mad Men with my Dad, I noticed that one of my favourites, Salvatore Romano (Bryan Batt) also has dark hair with grey “highlights”. Despite the fact that he is incredibly bad at hiding his sexuality (how the other characters believe his is a straight man is beyond me), I also have a natural leaning towards Sal and find him one of the most trustworthy of the Mad Men characters. I also have a soft spot for Roger “Silver Fox” Sterling (John Slattery) because he has grey hair.
I spent a lot of time thinking about this and decided the reason I find these physical traits trustworthy is for the simple reason that they are honest. Mitt knows he’s getting older and instead of hiding it, lets his hair do it’s thing. And I like this. This is nothing against people who dye their hair, I’ve dyed mine more times than I can remember, but I like Mitt better with his grey ear warmers than I would if he dyed his whole head darker, just like I’m more likely to warm to a balding man than I would a man who has invested in hair plugs or a toupee.
This could all be because for the entire time I’ve been alive, my Dad hasn’t had hair on the top of his head and his remaining hair and Santa beard has been a combination of salt and pepper. As the most influential man in my life, his physical appearance was bound to mark indicators of what I find trustworthy (or alternatively untrustworthy) in a man.
As for the Republican candidates? Mitt all the way. Because of his hair. And Willard is an awesome name.
What about you? What physical traits do you find trustworthy in either men or women? Do you know why?
