What Do You Do to Relax?

May 8, 2013 in Books, Entertainment, Film & TV, Health, Lifestyle, Mental Health

What sort of stuff do you do when you need to relax? As I was pulling together my thoughts for this article I started thinking about things I do in my spare time or what I do for fun, but they’re not exactly the same thing, are they? In my spare time I might do housework (not relaxing for me) or go on social media (which is fun, but not relaxing). I find playing Dungeons & Dragons great fun, but not relaxing, as it’s a fairly intense creative experience. So what I’m asking is not what you do for fun, [...]

Are you watching Big Brother? I can’t switch it off

October 31, 2012 in Dating, Entertainment, Film & TV, Friendship, Home, Lifestyle, Money, People, Relationships, Society

I have something to admit to you: I’m somewhat of a reality TV addict. I’m pretty sure I’m lucky to not have pay TV as I most definitely wouldn’t have a social life. Reality TV ticks lots of boxes for me 1) I like to be a fly on the wall, 2) I like to see how people interact with each other and who falls in love or who goes crazy from constant interaction within the confine, 3) it’s a bit like life porn really… these people are in your living room every evening for 3 months you feel like [...]

The Circle Is Gone, But Is TV For Women Dead?

July 30, 2012 in Current Affairs, Film & TV, News

The Blogosphere and Twitterverse in Australia is buzzing about the Ten Network’s decision to axe The Circle today. Now, I’ve never watched The Circle, but from what I hear, it was a popular show that, although still a light “morning” program, a lot of people enjoyed watching, especially women. I feel sorry for the on-air team and all the behind-the-scenes staff who have lost their jobs – and the news that Ten is replacing this home-grown show with imported products is something I can never support – but I’m not going to claim that this is a sign that Australian [...]

Should You Marry Your Best Friend?

April 23, 2012 in Dating, Friendship, Marriage, Relationships

It is my belief that Lily and Marshall have the best relationship on TV. How I Met Your Mother is my favourite sitcom simply because it is so easy to watch. I’ve grown tired of watching fucked up relationship dramas where the guy never gets the girl, or the guy gets the girl but then royally screws up what he thought he wanted, but didn’t. Lily and Marshall are a breath of fresh air in a very stale and tired group of depressing TV couples. Number one: they are best friends and love to poke fun at each other. They [...]

The Ten Rules Of TV

April 4, 2012 in Film & TV, Humour

I’ve always watched too much TV. Not a LOT of TV…just a little more than I should. Some of it good, some of it trashy. And that’s the thing about TV. For every “Downtown Abbey” I watch because I love great writing and great acting, I also watch some trashy sci-fi show like “Warehouse 13” just because I like to veg out sometimes. When you have watched as much TV as I have, you begin to notice a few things about the people in your TV set. These are The Ten Rules Of TV: 1. The biggest guest star is always the [...]

Breaking up with the Kardashians

March 23, 2012 in Celebrity, Film & TV

I love reality television. Real Housewives (New York is my favourite so far), The Only Way is Essex and EVERY POSSIBLE KARDASHIAN SPIN OFF YOU CAN THINK OF. I’ve been obsessed for awhile. I loved Khloe’s wedding, feel so desperately empathetic when Khloe shows her struggle with her weight and rewound and watched in shock as Kourtney literally PULLED her baby out of her during labour! Of course, my love of the reality mega-brand that is the Kardashian Klan (couldn’t help it) is brushed with a degree of realism – I know the family shot to fame off the back [...]
