How to Dress for a Job Interview

February 21, 2013 in Body Image, Fashion, Lifestyle, Style, Work

Items listed at end of post When you’re going for a new job, the first impression you make is extremely important and a few things contribute to this. The first thing you do, the first thing you say and, often the most important part of a first impression, how you look. It may at first seem superficial to worry about how you look at a job interview, but the details and care taken when it comes to putting together your look says a lot more than you think it might. So no matter how much or little style or fashion [...]

The Introverted Extrovert

November 9, 2012 in Friendship, People, Relationships, Self, Society

On this site we have spoken a bit about introverts and extraverts, we appear to have a fairly healthy combination of both on this site. Personally I have always leaned far towards the extroverted side of life, especially as my reaction to being uncomfortable is actually to get louder. As a child I was always the loudest person in any room. This meant people would have a very strong reaction to me. Either I was too loud and they wouldn’t like me, or they wanted to be near me because I drew attention and they were able to gain further [...]

Fake It ‘Til You Make It

October 25, 2012 in Body Image, Friendship, Mental Health, People, Self, Society

Today’s guest post from Chantelle Dalgarno: I have a confession to make. A dirty little secret. I’m not what I make myself out to be. I’ve been pretending to be someone I’m not… for a very VERY long time. The loud, opinionated, outgoing, confident and witty woman that you think I am? The woman who breezes up to you, a complete stranger, and compliments your scarf/dress/blog/shoes/etc., and then begins a conversation with you? The woman who can take the microphone with no preparation or planned speech and natter on to 3000 people without a single UM, AH or UH in [...]

Is 32 The New 50?

July 13, 2012 in Body Image, Hair, Health, Home, Lifestyle, Nails, People, Self, Society, Style, Work

I’m 32.  Recently I went to a hairdresser who is not my regular hairdresser. She commented on my hair, asking if my boss minded its colour, and when I said it had never been an issue, she suggested it should be and perhaps I could ‘tone it down’ to something more ‘age appropriate’. Those who know me will be aware that my wardrobe is filled with mostly black staple pieces that I will add a coloured accessory to- be it a scarf, jewellery, nails or even my hair. That’s me. But this exchange with the over zealous and fairly immature [...]

Confidence and the Fear of Rejection

July 12, 2012 in Body Image, Dating, Health, Mental Health, People, Relationships, Self

Today’s guest post by Mandi Aylmore: There comes a moment in your life, when you have to just accept who you are. You realise you aren’t going to change. You also realise that you actually like who you are (unless of course you are an axe murderer, in which case I would strongly suggest you keep working on yourself. Change is a good thing!) Well, recently, I’ve had that moment. I’ve embraced my nerdiness. I’ve realised that despite my nerdom, I’m actually kinda awesome, and that I no longer hate myself. That’s a huge thing for me to say. I’ve [...]

I Owe My health to Stephanie Rice

July 10, 2012 in Body Image, Celebrity, Entertainment, Health, Lifestyle, Mental Health, News, Nutrition, People, Self, Society, Sport

I owe Stephanie Rice my life. Okay, so that may sound a tad melodramatic but I at least owe her my health. As the London Olympic Games fast approach us the spotlight is firmly fixed on the 24-year-old queen of the pool. 60 minutes interviewed her on Sunday night and Sunday Life ran a cover story profile on the swimmer at the beginning of the month. This looks to be her last Olympic Games as she plans to retire from professional swimming following the 2012 London Games. This makes me a bit sad but we all know not to trust [...]
