The Introverted Extrovert

November 9, 2012 in Friendship, People, Relationships, Self, Society

On this site we have spoken a bit about introverts and extraverts, we appear to have a fairly healthy combination of both on this site. Personally I have always leaned far towards the extroverted side of life, especially as my reaction to being uncomfortable is actually to get louder. As a child I was always the loudest person in any room. This meant people would have a very strong reaction to me. Either I was too loud and they wouldn’t like me, or they wanted to be near me because I drew attention and they were able to gain further [...]

Describing Yourself in 5 Words

August 13, 2012 in Dating, Family, Marriage, People, Relationships, Self

Recently, I changed my Twitter bio. I’m quite proud of it and think I’m really funny and self deprecating. It got me thinking about adjectives, and words we would use to describe ourselves, if we were given only 5. I’m a very aware person. I am more aware of my faults than I’d like to be, but I maintain that I will always be aware of my shortcomings and I accept them. They are part of me, the same way that my honesty and strength are a part of me. It’s just who I am. I don’t apologise for who I [...]

Email Is Dead

May 28, 2012 in Lifestyle, People, Society, Technology, Work

Today’s guest article by Mazi Gray: As part of my masters in information management, I read a very interesting article with the heading “EMAIL IS DEAD”. Now considering I have 4 email accounts (which is apparently average) my initial thought was that the writer of this article was crazy. I then started to think about my emails in the last year, and maybe 1 in 20 was an actual email conversation I was having, usually with a friend who didn’t have facebook or an SMS number in Australia I could cheaply text. The email as a form of communication for [...]

What’s Your Social Style?

Something Tamsin said on Twitter caught my eye this week. She had been to a communication seminar for work, and tweeted that she was a Driver Expressive, loud and bossy. Well I don’t know about the loud part (haha see what I did there?), but she immediately reminded me of a book I have sitting on my shelf. You see, I love personality tests. I find it fun analysing myself and my friends, and fitting us into little boxes. There’s a favourite book of mine from childhood that does this very well, called The Delicate Art of Dancing with Porcupines. [...]

How To: Employ Good Email Etiquette

March 9, 2012 in Technology, Work

I have a theory that etiquette should be taught in schools. Although I believe that basic etiquette (please, thank you, eating with your mouth closed…) should be taught at home there are some things that just don’t come up or apply in the home, like writing emails. Let’s face it, we are raising an internet generation. Laptops are increasingly replacing books in school and emails are becoming the standard method of communication. Like writing a business letter, writing an effective and polite email is a skill required in the workplace and when seeking employment. So here is my guide to [...]
