This Week: Heart Health, Anniversary & New Jeans

April 20, 2013 in Anecdotes, Comedy, Fashion, Food & Recipes, Health, Humour, Marriage, Nutrition, Stories, Style, Wedding

This week has been, and will continue to be, a busy one. After pulling on my jeans last Thursday morning only to discover they were ripped right in the crotch (stylish, no?) I began my search for the ‘right’ jeans. I had pretty specific ideas of what I wanted in this pair of jeans. They had to be tight, stretchy enough that I could move comfortably, long enough to scrunch a little at the ankle, dark blue in colour, super skinny and high waisted. Not a long list of requirements at all! It took 3 different shopping trips with the [...]

This Week: How Animals Eat Their Food

April 13, 2013 in Fashion, Health, Home, Lifestyle, Meta, Style, Work

As you know, last week I was sick. I’m still on a restricted diet but I’m allowed solid food again (yay!) so Monday saw me attending work dizzy and weak, then Monday night I ate the best meal in the world and have felt heaps better since. I’m still not 100% and my stomach is probably only at about 70% alright, but I’m getting there! Here’s my week in pics: First meal after fasting for 3 days. Best meal ever.  My childhood dressing table (pictured in my childhood bedroom). My parents want it out of their house so they can make [...]

Today’s guest post by An Idle Dad: This post carries a language warning and is possibly not safe for work due to language Here we go again. People get to tut and um about ‘fun police’ or in this specific case ‘cupcake police’. People get to mutter darkly about the nanny state. They’ll nod to each other and say “Political correctness gone mad”. Well, those people are cunts. Cunts with nothing better to do. There are far more greater things to worry about than some advice tucked away in some guidelines on how to reduce the incidents of germs spreading [...]

June 11, 2012 in Children, Food & Recipes, Lifestyle

We thought it would be fun over the Queen’s birthday long weekend to run the 3 different recipes for rainbow cake we have collected, that result in 3 different cakes. We figure: The Queen likes rainbow cake! So here it is, the Queen’s Jubilee Rainbow Cake Spectacular! After a couple of goes making the other rainbow cake, I decided that while it looked amazing it didn’t taste quite as amazing. So I tried a new base recipe which is super duper tasty and the cake came out brighter than before (if you can believe it). However, this one resulted in [...]

The second recipe in our Rainbow Cake series is a guest post by Caroline Hutchison: We like to cook in our house; in fact it is the go to activity if the kids are bored. We’ve tried the rainbow cake recipe a few times, the first time it wasn’t so successful, I used [...]

Recipe: Rainbow Cake Part 1

June 9, 2012 in Children, Food & Recipes, Lifestyle

We thought it would be fun over the Queen’s birthday long weekend to run the 3 different recipes for rainbow cake we have collected, that result in 3 different cakes. We figure: The Queen likes rainbow cake! So here it is, the Queen’s Jubilee Rainbow Cake Spectacular! After buying food colouring to make macarons, then failing miserably with aforementioned macarons, I decided to put them to use. So this weekend I made a Rainbow Cake. I searched the net and found a few different variations of Rainbow Cake, including the simplified version of using 2 packets of Betty Crocker White [...]

Saved by Cake: Everyday Habits Can Beat Depression

March 13, 2012 in Books, Food & Recipes, Health, Lifestyle, Mental Health

As I was midway through my run this week, I realised that I rely on exercise a hell of a lot to keep my mood and emotions in check. If I don’t exercise for a couple of days then I’m not much fun to be around. I haven’t always been like this. I’ve been a couch potato and I’ve been in Biggest Loser territory where I spent every evening, yes every evening, in Macca’s drive-thru. I was addicted to those McChicken burgers for a very long time. It was a sad break-up really. I miss the mayo. Still. In 2008, [...]
