Movie Review: Iron Man 3

April 29, 2013 in Entertainment, Film & TV

Like every other geek in the world, I’ve been looking forward to Iron Man 3 since 2012’s The Avengers. Well, if I’m honest, I’ve been looking forward to the next instalment of Iron Man since I first heard of him in 2008. You get the idea that the now-sober Robert Downey Jnr puts a lot of himself into hard-living genius millionaire Tony Stark and he’s great fun. One of Downey’s first comeback movies was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005, directed by Shane Black, who helms Iron Man 3. It was snarky, funny, and what is now called meta, a Hollywood piss-take starring a couple [...]

Nice Try, Ryan Gosling…

January 23, 2013 in Celebrity, Entertainment, Film & TV, Humour, Sex

I don’t get it. I’ll put my hand up and say I’m one of the five people on the planet who just doesn’t get the whole Ryan Gosling thing. I’m also one of those people that doesn’t get the whole Brad Pitt and George Clooney thing either. At this point I should mention that yes, I have a fully functional set of female reproductive glands, and yes, I can see he hasn’t been beaten with the ugly stick. But I still don’t get it. I have only seen one movie with Mr Gosling in it. Maybe that’s the problem? But [...]

When it comes to buying Christmas presents, a lot of people get stuck on what to get. Especially when it comes to men. So I thought I’d lend a hand with a bit of a gift guide. Most people can think of DVDs and books themselves, so I’ve tried to go a little outside the box with my suggestions. If in doubt, get a book voucher . Keep checking back for my guides for women & kids. Under $50 Avengers: Without a doubt one of the most popular movies of the year was The Avengers and with only having come [...]

What I Want for Father’s Day

August 30, 2012 in Entertainment, Family, Fathers, Film & TV, Parenting, People, Self

Father’s day is one of those days that tends to bring out a few groans from children everywhere. Is it just me, or is it easier to find things for mum? Dads tend to be a bit harder to find things to buy for and this year I’ve faced my own new horror – not only did I go through the ‘what do I get dad this year?’, but I also face the dreaded ‘So, what do you want for Father’s Day?’. This is only my second Father’s Day, officially as a Dad, and with it has come an extra [...]

The Sort-Of Sequel

May 1, 2012 in Comedy, Entertainment, Film & TV

Not too long ago, we were talking about sequels and how they seem to be everywhere. Since then, the “sort-of sequel” has made an appearance. What’s a “sort-of sequel”? I hear you ask. Well, now that you’ve brought it up, a “sort-of sequel” is where characters or storylines from a previous film are used to make a new film without being a proper sequel (can also be called a spin-off, but I think “sort-of sequel” sounds better, more original). Example: Evan Almighty.  Making the rounds at the box office this weekend, superhero film The Avengers became the most recent “sort-of sequel”. [...]
