This Week: 20 Years, Happily Unmarried

April 27, 2013 in Fashion, Marriage, Relationships, Wedding

This week my partner R and I celebrated 20 years of being happily unmarried. Anniversaries for the unmarried are always difficult to define. R and I have actually known each other for 21 years, so our “anniversary” is an arbitrary date. For us, it’s the 25th April 1993. That’s the day we went on our first “date”. That was the day we stopped being two people who worked in the same office and took our first steps towards becoming “a couple”. It’s also an easy date to remember, being ANZAC Day and all… There are other anniversaries of course – the day we first [...]

This Week: Heart Health, Anniversary & New Jeans

April 20, 2013 in Anecdotes, Comedy, Fashion, Food & Recipes, Health, Humour, Marriage, Nutrition, Stories, Style, Wedding

This week has been, and will continue to be, a busy one. After pulling on my jeans last Thursday morning only to discover they were ripped right in the crotch (stylish, no?) I began my search for the ‘right’ jeans. I had pretty specific ideas of what I wanted in this pair of jeans. They had to be tight, stretchy enough that I could move comfortably, long enough to scrunch a little at the ankle, dark blue in colour, super skinny and high waisted. Not a long list of requirements at all! It took 3 different shopping trips with the [...]

Dumped! End Game

April 17, 2013 in Dating, Fiction, Friendship, Humour, Marriage, Wedding

It was a few hours before midnight on New Year’s Eve, and Blake and Carla were sitting together on the floor of Blake’s apartment  Blake looked for all the world like one of the homeless people he had given Carla’s clothes to. Carla held a hanky to her nose, trying not to gag. “Give up?” asked Blake? “No. – But, my God Blake, you really stink!!” They both laughed. “You know,” said Carla, “I’ve tried and tried to think of something really bad to get you to dump me, and I just can’t think of anything anymore. It’s like I don’t want you to dump [...]

Don’t Read Posts On Weddings (Except This One)

March 25, 2013 in Marriage, People, Relationships, Self, Wedding

As you all know, I got engaged recently. Even though many people expect me to be like Monica from “Friends” with a massive binder filled with every wedding idea I have ever had, I’m not. Surprised? You aren’t alone. I am enjoying filling the amazing wedding binder I bought from kikki k and the “wedding notes” book my lovely sister gave me. You see, while I haven’t planned everything already in my head, I have waited my whole life to plan a wedding. This may be less impressive to some given the fact that I am only 22, but I [...]

What’s the best day of your life?

February 6, 2013 in Dating, Family, Friendship, Lifestyle, Marriage, People, Relationships, Self, Wedding

I’ve been suffering writer’s block. Those dreaded two words, I know! But I’m sure we’ve all been there. So in a conversation with JJ I was complaining about this and he gave me a topic: “What’s the best day of your life?” I thought about it for a minute. What was the best day of my life? There’s the obvious ones. There’s my wedding day, of course. Amazing day, saw all my friends, got married. Only that wasn’t actually the best day of my life. It was a pretty stressful day, frankly. Things didn’t go to plan, my stepdaughter [...]

Pre-Dumped: The Day That Dare Not Speak Its Name

January 29, 2013 in Dating, Family, Fiction, Friendship, Humour, Marriage, Relationships, Wedding

This is a mini-prequel-teaser-post to the new Rom-Com-Web-Serial “Dumped”, coming soon to KiKi & Tea. Carla stood in front of all her family and friends in her perfect white-dress. It was a perfect day, and she was standing before the perfect man, her fiancée Richard. “….do you Richard Andrew Smith take Carla Narelle Gloop as your lawfully wedded wife?” asked the perfect priest. “I…..I…..I can’t. I’m sorry. I just can’t marry you. I am so sorry. It’s me, not you…Carla, I’m gay…there, I’ve finally said it! What a relief! I, Richard Andrew Smith, LOVE SAUSAGE!!!” Carla, not knowing what to do, turned [...]

Why Does Getting Married Scare The Bejesus Out Of Me?

November 13, 2012 in Dating, Entertainment, Film & TV, Marriage, People, Relationships, Self, Wedding

I read a quote the other day which really resonated with me. “If you knew you were going to meet the love of your life in one year, how different would that one year be?” Growing up I always thought I would meet the right person, settle down and eventually get married. I’ve always wanted kids and it’s no lie that I have definitely been more career focused than marriage focused since I left high school. After finishing school it was all about what university I was going to enrol in and what course I was keen to major in. At [...]

Married In Italy & Monique’s Celeb Top 5

October 26, 2012 in Celebrity, Entertainment, Film & TV, Marriage, Pregnancy & Birth, Wedding

When writing these introductions, I wish that I could type the way I speak in person but sadly,  it sometimes doesn’t come across that way. For instance, I want to start with “hey hey hey” but said with some attitude. Now if you don’t hear the attitude or the subtle nuances in my voice (yes, using big words here), it will just look like I’ve repeated myself. Sigh. I hope this will change one day. It’s been a fun week in H0llywood this week with some awesome videos and what has got to be my favourite wedding photo ever. Enjoy… [...]

In The Flesh & Monique’s Celeb Top 5

August 24, 2012 in Celebrity, Dating, Entertainment, Health, Mental Health, Relationships, Wedding

Happy Friday Everyone! Hope you’ve all had an absolutely lovely week and have an even better weekend planned, I know I do. This past week in Hollywood has been full of surprises with a couple I didn’t even know were dating (that’s right, I did not know) announcing their engagement, a comedian self-medicating a heart attack, a shocking death, a singing sweetheart breaking the cardinal rule of NOT attending weddings you weren’t invited to and the biggest shock, OK, maybe not shock, but the biggest scandal of them all: we all got to see Prince Harry in his birthday suit… [...]

Overseas Weddings: Fad Or Fun?

August 9, 2012 in Lifestyle, Marriage, People, Relationships, Religion, Self, Society, Travel, Wedding

I read a lot of blogs but one that I follow religiously is Sam de Brito’s All Men Are Liars* which runs in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Sun Herald paper. He always has a knack of being honest about life’s shortcomings or just things that we, as a society, put up with. Sam de Brito doesn’t put up with much. He calls a spade a spade which just goes to show that the name of his opinion column couldn’t be further from the truth. I had the pleasure of meeting Sam, somewhat shyly, in Dymocks George Street late last [...]
