These Are My Claims To Lame

March 8, 2013 in Anecdotes, Celebrity, Humour, Politics, Sport

If we’re lucky, some of us may have a claim to fame – something we can brag about. Something about our lives that other people find interesting, exciting, and yes, are maybe a little jealous of. For example, I was in the Olympic Stadium the night Cathy Freeman won the 400m at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. But so were 100,000 other people, so maybe that’s not that special. Maybe that’s not really a claim to fame. Sadly, I think most of us are more likely to suffer from claims to lame than claims to fame. Things that, at first, [...]

Wealth Distribution, Inequality and Sadness

March 8, 2013 in Current Affairs, Finance, Home, Human Rights, Lifestyle, Money, News, People, Politics, Self, Society, Work

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about money. I hate money. I hate it with an absolute passion. As a child I wanted to be rich, purely because I didn’t ever want to have to think about money. I just wanted it to be there when I wanted it and never have to worry about it again. I’ve reached a point now where even that would not be enough. I would need to be completely, totally, stinking rich, so not only could I not think about money but I could give most of it away to others without it mattering [...]

Just Bake The F***ing Cupcakes (Possibly NSFW)

February 8, 2013 in Children, Current Affairs, Entertainment, Film & TV, News, Parenting, Politics

Today’s guest post by An Idle Dad: This post carries a language warning and is possibly not safe for work due to language Here we go again. People get to tut and um about ‘fun police’ or in this specific case ‘cupcake police’. People get to mutter darkly about the nanny state. They’ll nod to each other and say “Political correctness gone mad”. Well, those people are cunts. Cunts with nothing better to do. There are far more greater things to worry about than some advice tucked away in some guidelines on how to reduce the incidents of germs spreading [...]

Bullying The Bully

February 7, 2013 in Body Image, Lifestyle, People, Politics, Self

Here at KiKi & Tea (and personally), we are against bullying. We don’t condone it and we discourage people from engaging in bullying activities. You’ll have noticed that in the celebrity posts I’ve done in the past, I talk about what is happening but try to be really careful (and I may have failed) to make sure I’m not saying anything really hurtful or anything that could be classed as bullying. Why? Because celebrities are people as well and people with feelings. I hate bullying and I’m sick of it. I’m not just talking about the schoolyard bully (but boy [...]

This Week: Australia Day, Gay Teachers, and “Dumped”

January 25, 2013 in Current Affairs, Gender, Lifestyle, News, Politics, Sexuality, Society

Here’s JJ & T with another weekly chat about life, the universe…and well, anything… JJ: Hey T – looking forward to the long weekend? T: You have no idea! Packing a whole Summer holiday’s worth of activities into 2 weeks with a kid is pretty tiring! Are you doing anything for Australia Day? JJ: Shopping…ha ha…it’s just a normal Saturday for us…it’s weird having Australia Day on a Saturday…everything’s open. T: I know! And then it’s the whole thing of do you do the “traditional Australia Day” thing on the Saturday or the public holiday? JJ: Do you celebrate Australia Day? T: No, not really. [...]

I Miss Having Holidays

November 29, 2012 in Lifestyle, Money, News, Politics, Society, Work

This year marks my first year of working full time. I am extremely thankful to be working full time (following my struggle to find employment post university graduation), especially in a job that I love and with wonderful people. I am very lucky. Though working full time has it’s downside. The only complaint I have about my job is that it takes me away from my bed and spare time. I hate having to leave the comfort of my bed to work eight and a half hours, five days a week, before I get to come home and relax. This [...]

Are You a Proud Australian?

November 23, 2012 in Current Affairs, Human Rights, News, People, Politics, Society

Surfing the net this week, I came across this story on News.com.au titled Mob’s racist tirade against bus passenger caught on camera. I was intrigued so I clicked the link and read the article. Turns out a French girl was singing on a bus in Melbourne, and a couple of people took issue with this and started to bully her. When I say bully I actually mean abuse. The reason? She was singing on the bus, in her native tongue. I was unaware that singing in French on a bus was offensive, but according to the people who hurled abuse at [...]

Prime Minister Turnbull: Is It Just A Fantasy?

November 6, 2012 in Current Affairs, News, Politics

In May 2011 I first published a post about  Malcolm Turnbull on my old blog. I ran a slightly updated version of that post on KiKi & Tea when T and I were using some old blog posts to add some content to our site before we went live. In that post I outlined my reasons why I think Malcolm Turnbull should quit the Libs and run as an independent. I wrote the piece when Tony Abbott’s term as opposition leader seemed to be at its strongest, and it looked like the idea of a Malcolm Turnbull Prime Ministership was a thing of the [...]

Video: Will Ferrell Encourages Voting

November 5, 2012 in Celebrity, Entertainment, Film & TV, Politics

If, like me, you have an amazing sense of humour, then you will love Will Ferrell and the latest in a long line of celebrity endorsements as the US Presidential Election race comes to a head this week. In this short clip, Will Ferrell is encouraging Americans to vote on Election Day (Tuesday November 6) by promising them a number of things. Dancing and eating human toenails are some of the things he promises he will do if you decide to vote as voting isn’t compulsory in America. He also throws in a little “Vote for Obama” at the end. It seems many [...]
