A Robot And My Hopes for a Stepford-like Life

April 15, 2013 in Health, Home, Lifestyle, Pets

Anyone who has read more than a few posts from me knows when it comes to housework I’m the laziest person ever. I hate housework. I thought this would magically change over time and I’d become a Stepford Wife purely by growing up, getting married, having kids, moving out of home. Well, I haven’t had kids, I got married and I moved out, but whether or not I’ve grown up is debatable, and I still haven’t had a magic wand waved and become a Stepford Wife… And considering how painful that machine to turn the wives into robots looks, I guess [...]

This Week: Easter and Sickness

April 6, 2013 in Health, Lifestyle, Meta, Pets

Well I’ve had an interesting week. Easter was awesome fun, after all the cleaning I talked about last week, as my in laws, including my nieces, and my parents came over on the Sunday and we had a big American breakfast (a tradition started when The Viking lived in the US) and then all went to the oval near our house which has been all built up. I got to behave like a child while my parents pushed me on a swing, and that was pure joy (and unfortunately I don’t have a picture of it right now, will add [...]

Some People Have Kids, Some People Have Cats

April 5, 2013 in Children, Parenting, Pets

I want to start by saying I think cats are awesome, I have Facebook and YouTube, I know cats are pretty cool. Unfortunately I’m allergic to cats, so I can never own one myself even if I wanted to. I have friends with cats though. I was talking to one friend when our baby was a couple of months old and I said to her I was so tired from night feeds, she said “Oh I know how you feel, *cats name* kept me up all night too.” I fought the temptation to ask if her cat breastfed hourly too, but I [...]

This Week: Breakfast & Cleaning

March 30, 2013 in Food & Recipes, Home, Lifestyle, Meta, Pets, Self, Sexuality, Society

In the past week I’ve spent more than the recommended amount of time cleaning. The up side being my house is all spotless in time for Easter and we finally unpacked the boxes in the hallway that have been there for, oh, a while (3 years). I also cleaned all the windows which haven’t been cleaned for a long time. This was my week in pics: Breakfast for Good Friday: Porridge! Note how my one is the child size version? Hilarious.  Night at the Chapel last Friday night. Church has changed quite a bit since I was last there. Lionel [...]

Dying with Dignity

March 6, 2013 in Family, Health, Human Rights, Pets, Self, Society

It was a typical Australian summer morning. Off to get a coffee I decided to swing by the vets to buy some rabbit food. It was surprisingly busy and I queued patiently, taking in the pets and their owners. The doorbell rang again to signal the arrival of another patient. I saw a golden retriever before anyone else. Tongue lolling because of the heat, he looked like he was smiling. I only noticed his age when his owner, a smiling grey-haired man, helped the dog pet negotiate the steps up into the waiting room. And then I saw the rest [...]

Fiction: Spanky The Hamster

March 1, 2013 in Fiction, Humour, Pets

Spanky the hamster loved running on his wheel of power. Nothing gave him more pleasure than to run and run and run, generating all the power needed to keep KiKi & Tea up and running. He didn’t know what KiKi & Tea was – he was a hamster. He couldn’t read or use a laptop or earn money to pay for a smartphone with internet access. No, all Spanky knew how to do was to run. Some days not as many looked at KiKi & Tea, and Spanky could run as fast or slow as he wanted, when he wanted. [...]

Stop and Think? Nah, I’ll Just Do

November 20, 2012 in Children, Home, Lifestyle, Marriage, Mental Health, Money, Mothers, Music, Pets, Self, Work

As a little girl my mother would constantly implore me to think about what I was doing. She would remind me of this with the oft repeated phrase “For goodness sake, Tamsin, why don’t you just think?!” I’ve thought about this advice a lot over the last couple of weeks as I made a couple of mistakes at work that I surely would have avoided had I only stopped to think. Last night on Twitter I had a conversation with Mrs Ceee Ceee (with thanks to the Queen of Gin… she told me to put that in there) about people who have a [...]

Unusual Allergies, I Have a Few

August 15, 2012 in Anecdotes, Food & Recipes, Health, Lifestyle, People, Pets, Self, Stories

Upon posting a photo of a huntsman spider on twitter, I was asked if I was scared of them. No, I replied, as long as they don’t touch me because I’m allergic to a spider’s hair, I just don’t know which. Wait… what? Yeah, you read that right, there is a kind of spider I am allergic to the hair of, and I don’t know which kind of spider it is. I know it’s brown, and has thin legs. Some people are allergic to peanuts, to lactose, or to gluten. I’m allergic to spider hair. The story is I woke [...]

Becoming a Foster Parent (to a cat)

June 22, 2012 in Home, Lifestyle, People, Pets, Self

My husband & I have an announcement to make. We have decided to become foster parents. We have one little girl, she is 9 years old, the apple of my eye and a real mama’s girl. But we saw this beautiful faces, and we couldn’t say no. It’s true, we’re going to foster a rescue cat. Most people have reacted to this with words of encouragement. Although a few have been quietly (actually, not so quietly) sceptical. There have been a number of concerns raised about bringing a cat into our home, will he get along OK with our current [...]

Melbourne Earthquake Shakes Up Twitter

June 20, 2012 in Anecdotes, Current Affairs, Entertainment, Film & TV, Humour, Lifestyle, News, People, Pets, Stories, Technology

Last night at 8:53pm Melbourne was hit by a 5.3 magnitude earthquake. The ground shook, stock fell off shelves, cats played guitars, and Twitter went wild. Australia has a long history of reacting to drama with humour, it is our best defense. Last night’s earthquake (which prompted more than 30 calls for help however no reports of major damage or injuries) was no exception. It wasn’t long before everyone was having a laugh, even when Sunrise on 7 reported the story really seriously today they kept showing footage of a mannequin that had fallen over, and I couldn’t help but [...]
