This Week: Stepdaughter

I was very naughty last week and didn’t run a This Week post at all! So this week will have to be for the past 2 weeks, which is fitting as I’ve been on holidays for both of them.

Best: It’s a tie between Stepdaughter visiting, my cousin getting married and being on holidays. A tough call, so I’ll have to say all three. This was, without a doubt, the best visit we have had with Stepdaughter and I think a lot of that had to do with me being able to relax and be on holidays. And probably a lot to do with her getting older as well.

Worst: It’s hard to see her go home every time, and seeing how much it hurts the Viking to say goodbye, knowing it will be months before he gets to see her again, is heart breaking. I can’t imagine how much it must hurt him, although I know he has his own strategies for dealing with it.

This Week’s Pic: Taken at the airport before her flight, so a sad moment even though we’re smiling, but I think it’s the nicest pic of the 3 of us we took this trip. I suspect my mother in law has others.

Then, purely because, here are a few other pics taken during the week.

Around the web:

This post The Way You Do Anything Is The Way You Do Everything left a lasting impression on me. It’s quite a wake up call and makes me wonder if I should dedicate hours to cleaning my house, the way I dedicate my time to blogging, working, and other pursuits.

I showed Stepdaughter Clueless for the first time, I think a lot of the dialogue went over her head as she’s mostly been exposed to cartoons, kids movies and/or action movies, but it was fun anyway. Then Detachable Princess showed me this post on recreating the outfits from Clueless. Brilliant.

Then there was this story of a school community’s reaction to a transgendered person not being allowed to wear a skirt as they are classified “male” and therefore must wear the “male” uniform to school. The reaction from the boys was heart warming.

On KiKi & Tea:

We kicked off the week talking about being indecisive, and I laughed hard when I got the email from Monique of “I wrote a post about being indecisive, let me know what you think.”

The Tuesday Tip was 10 steps to growing your hair by Jessica, and I agree with every single one.

Wednesday we kicked off Mental Health Month with a post explaining the concept and what we have in store for you, then a reader’s story about fear. We are hoping to feature a number of readers stories this month, and if you have one you’d like to send us just send it to submissions@kikiandtea.com – we are looking for stories of mental illness, addiction and, most importantly, how to improve your mental health and overcome your demons.

Thursday saw a post from our newest contributor Sally (Welcome, Sally!) about growing up in a racist household and how it has influenced her political beliefs. A very important piece.

How was your week? What did you see you’d like to share? Best and Worst?
