Caught In The Act & Monique’s Celeb Top 5
July 27, 2012 in Celebrity, Entertainment, Film & TV
Hello my lovely friends and welcome to another edition of my celebrity news highlights post. This week is a little different as I did not get a chance to write “the low down according to mon” over on my personal blog, “the musings of monique”. This will happen from time to time and I apologise to those of you who enjoy reading it, I will do my best to have it for you next week. So as well as being the highlights edition, this is the only edition of my celeb news for the week and boy it’s been a big week!
1. KStew cheats on RPatz with married director
Twilight fans across the world were equally devastated and thrilled when news broke that Kristen Stewart had cheated on heart-throb boyfriend Robert Pattinson with her married Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. When I just read the headlines, my head was screaming rumour! When I saw the photos, I thought “this is plausible, that doesn’t look like just friends to me”. And when I saw that both Kristen, 22 and Rupert, 41, had issued public apologies, I was shocked.
For a notoriously private person, I was surprised she even addressed the rumours, let alone said in a statement “this momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry”.
Rupert’s statement referenced his “beautiful wife and heavenly children”. His wife, Liberty Ross starred opposite KStew in SWATH. People have been jumping on the internet slamming KStew and calling her a home wrecker, and while I think she made a terrible lapse of judgement, Rupert wasn’t innocent in all of this. And for all those people saying “poor Rob”, what about the wife and children who have been betrayed? This is obviously a private matter and we have no idea what went down but it’s the biggest thing that happened this week so I can’t ignore it. People (aka Whippersnapper) have asked what I think will happen to KStew and RPatz and all I can say is it’s good the press tours are over and it’s up to Rob if he wants to forgive her. Don’t crucify her in the comments, she’s only human.
2. Mariah Carey joins American Idol
After high profile judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler left the long running talent competition, diva extraordinaire Mariah Carey has signed on as a judge for American Idol. Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly confirmed Mariah will be on judging panel of the 12th season of American Idol. At an executive session at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Reilly said, ”I think it’s the biggest recording artist that any of these shows have ever had. It’s an artist that many contestenats have tried to emulate, have tried to sing [her] songs, have tried to hit the notes. Because [the deal] really only concluded hours ago, our new judge couldn’t be with us.” He then called Mariah to prove it and she said to the audience, “I am so excited to be joining Idol, I wish I could be there today. I can’t wait too get started.” She has also tweeted ”It’s gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! –MC” I wonder how long she’ll be a judge.
3. Christian Bale visits Aurora victims
My opinion of actor Christian Bale sky-rocketed this week when he visited the victims of the Aurora Shooting at a hospital in Denver, Colorado. The shooting, which took 12 lives and injured 58 others, took place at a midnight screening of Bale’s latest film, The Dark Knight Rises. There was a Facebook campaign asking for Bale to visit the victims dressed as Batman to show them that heroes are real. I don’t know if Bale saw this but either way, I’m glad he left the costume at home as I feel this would have been incredibly traumatic to those he was visiting. The actor went of his own accord and wasn’t representing Warner Bros studio. Christian spent two and a half hours at the hospital visiting the victims and talking to the first responders to the scene. He then placed flowers at a vigil behind the cinema. The hospital was aware that Christian was coming but was asked not to alert the media. I think it is just so lovely of him to go. The cynics may think he did it for good publicity, but in all honesty, I don’t care why he did it, he still did a lovely thing.
4. Katherine Jackson loses custody of Michael’s kids
I can’t help but feel sorry for these poor kids. Last weekend, Katherine Jackson, the mother of the late Michael Jackson, was reported missing. It turns out that the 82-year-old was just away at the Miraval Resort & Spa in Arizona. It was rumoured that her children had kidnapped her, when really she was just getting some R&R. During this short absence, a judge granted Tito Jackson’s 32-year-old son T.J. Jackson (Michael’s nephew) temporary guardianship of Prince, 15, Paris, 14 and Blanket, 10. Katherine told ABC News “I am devastated that while I’ve been away, my grandchildren have been taken away from me, and I’m coming home”. There are mixed reports on how the family have dealt with this news but I just feel bad for these kids, they need some stability and normalcy.
5. Modern Family cast in salary dispute
Everyone’s favourite TV family has been causing quite the scandal this week when filming for season four was meant to start. The cast did not turn up to the first table read of the season as they were in the middle of salary negotiations. It has been reported that the six adult cast members, Ed O’Neill, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet have apparently been arguing with studio ABC to get a raise. Apparently, Ed has been getting somewhere in the figure of $100,000 per episode with the rest scraping in $60,000. It is rumoured that they’re asking for a pay rise in the area of $200,000 per episode. The cast filed a lawsuit against 20th Century Fox with the court documents stating that the success of the show has “been built upon a collection of illegal contracts”. Since all of this went down earlier in the week, the cast have put their issues aside to go to the first table read of the season. Contract negotiations are still ongoing and as always, when I know more, so will you.
Welcome back…
This week we saw not only the 2012 Teen Choice Awards but we also saw the first live performance by No Doubt since 2009 and their first new song since the release of their last studio album Rock Steady in 2001. Check it out.
Until next time…
